When I see spicy versions of Oats in India I am much delighted to include Oats in my breakfast to make it savory. Though I enjoy eating Cooked Oatmeal with Sambar, but never tried cooking Oats along with the spices directly until I made this Oats Upma today. When I have started this recipe, little hesitant about the outcome as Oats are gluey in nature. But I am completely confident now to include in my breakfast platter. It is little hard compared to normal upma and you will be full after you eat small portion of it as Oats are complex carbs. Go ahead and Experiment cooking with these multi grains. Here is the recipe, Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Oats - 1 cup
Onion - 1/2 medium
Tomato - 1 medium ( cluster, non-hybrid)
carrot - 1 medium
Cashew Nuts - 5
Green Chili - 1
Ginger - 1 inch stick
Chana Dal - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 5
salt - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Water - 1 Tbsp
Lime Juice - 1 tsp
Method:
I have served Oats Upma with some yogurt (curd) on the side along with some fruit cut to beat the heat here.
Tips:
Have a Healthy Breakfast in the morning to energize your entire day.

- Add Chopped Tomato and saute until tomato oozes juices ( about 3 min).
- Now add Oats to the pan and mix it well. (sprinkle some water, it it becomes too hard).
- Saute for about 2 min until Oats cooked completely.
Serve into breakfast plate and sprinkle some lime juice and server warm.
I have served Oats Upma with some yogurt (curd) on the side along with some fruit cut to beat the heat here.
Tips:
- This has to be eaten warm, it becomes hard as it cools off.
- The amount of water to add depends on your tomato. If tomatoes are juicy and tangy you will get best results, other wise you have to add some water in order to get the oats cooked.
Have a Healthy Breakfast in the morning to energize your entire day.
