Instant Ravva Idli

It's been a while I have made Idli at home. As my pressure cooker is packed in the container almost all the Indian cooking has come to stop for those 3 months. Then only i realize how much i rely on pressure cooker for my savory Indian Signature dishes like Idli, Dal, Sambar etc...After we got our container first thing i cooked is Dal ( Pappu), as the whole family missed this for 3 months. And I am with the plan to make Idli for next week as I have to prepare the batter for it. Usually my son is the one who always makes food wishes. But today my daughter asked me that 'She is feeling like eating Idli', actually I am also craving for Idli , as i don't want to disappoint her and make her wait until next week, I have been searching for instant Ravva Idli recipe ( or that's excuse to make one more new dish ;-) ) and I am happy with this one. I have altered the base recipe to add more vegetables and nuts to suit my needs. here is the recipe, Njoy!

Instant Rava Idli

Ingredients:
adapted from: Sailus Food

Sooji Rava oe Upma Rava (Semolina)  - 1 cup
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
chana dal - 1 tbsp
ginger - 1 tsp ( grated)
green chilies - 2
curry leaves - 5
baking soda  - 1 tsp
coriander leaves ( cilantro) - 1 Tbsp
carrot - 1 ( medium)
salt - 1 tsp
curd - 1 cup ( or yogurt)
ghee ( clarified butter) - 1 Tbsp
water - 1/4 cup
cashew nuts - 10 ( halved)

Method:
Ravva Mixture with Curd and tempering

  1. Heat the Ghee in non-stick pan. Once it is hot add mustard seeds, followed by Chana dal, once they turn brown add chopped curry leaves, green chilies and ginger. Add Sooji Rava to the pan and fry for 2 to 3 minutes. and turn off the heat.
  2. Take a medium bowl and add curd, salt, grated carrot, chopped cilantro and mix well. Add fried rava to this mixture and mix well. Add baking soda to this close the lid and let it sit for 30 minutes. (to allow it to ferment. curd and baking soda will help to progress the fermenting process.)
  3. After 30 minutes, this mixture will be dense and thick, add water to this mixture and dilute it. Now spray or apply some ghee to your idli pans. Pour the ladle of batter in your Idli molds. and place a cashew nuts in the center. And now pressure cook for 8 - 10 minutes. and switch off the stove. give it 5 minutes to settle the steam and open the cooker and Colorful Fluffy Idli will be ready for you...
  4.

serve hot with peanut chutney or coconut chutney. or to make it special and different from routine serve with red pepper chutney or cranberry chutney. Hmmmm, Yumm! Yum!... I have noticed these Idli are little heavy than the normal Idli, i think because of the Curd..

Idli served with Red Pepper Chutney
Now if you have those unexpected guests, then surprise them with these instant Idli. As I am out of Peanuts in my pantry I have made Red Pepper Chutney to go with this Colorful Idli. That's even better some more vegetable servings in your morning brekfast... Oila !! Eat more vegetables and be role model to your kiddos...

Note: As my little ones can easily separate the nuts, instead of placing it on top, I have chopped the nuts and added to the batter, that makes it to difficult to find the nuts( for my kiddos). ;-)

take care until we meet here again..
